Who You Are

Job requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provides engineering services on various matters including substation design, equipment specifications and compliance, budgetary estimate, proposal evaluation and requisitioning, engineering calculations to assure the safety and performance of equipment and systems, coordinating equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedule, and checking completed job for adequacy of design and documentations.

Develop preliminary and detailed physical substation design drawings including but not limited to yard layouts, plans, sections, detailed, grounding, lightning protection, and associated bills of materials.

Develop scope of work, conceptual designs, and execution plans.

Prepare calculations for studies and reports such as grounding and lightning protection.

Coordinate design activities with others (Civil/Structure and Transmission Line).

Monitor the project construction activities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

Ability to work independently and with others while maintaining a high level of initiative and self-motivation.

Must possess good technical and engineering design/planning skills.

Provide direct supervision to staff designers and field personnel.

Familiar with design and construction standards as well as applicable industry codes and practices.

Education, experience, capabilities & Location
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited university.

3-5+ years of practical substation experience required. Other experience levels may be considered.

Strong understanding and knowledge of the industry and national codes and standards including NESC, NEC, NEMA, ANSI, and IEEE standards and other applicable standards pertaining to substation design.

PE or the ability to obtain a professional license is a plus.

Microsoft Office, CAD, and MicroStation experience are preferred.

Maintain a valid driver’s license.

Must successfully pass background and driver’s history checks as well as drug and alcohol testing.

Able to travel 5-20% of the time, with occasional overnight travel.

The position is located on the west side of Indianapolis.
